Tea tree essential oil, much like peppermint essential oil, is very powerful and can be used to tackle heavy tasks. It’s great for a variety of uses; everything from skincare to household cleaning.

Warning: Tea Tree essential oil cannot be ingested. Do not ingest tea tree essential oil in capsules or add it to any food or beverage. But it’s great for external use!
1. Tackle germy surfaces
Tea tree essential oil combined with water or vinegar makes a strong and versatile household cleaner. It deters microbial growth, so it’s a perfect way to clean up naturally and without health risks. Use it to wipe down counters, tables, toilets, floors, children’s toys, and more.
2. Acne & acne scars
Tea tree essential oil has been known to be a potent acne fighter. Use a cotton swab to apply 1 drop directly to a bad pimple. Be careful not to get the oil in your eyes.
3. Clarifying shampoo
Add a few drops of tea tree essential oil to your shampoo for an extra clarifying boost. It’s been proven to help subside dandruff, heal cuts on the scalp, and it gives the hair a fresh scent; almost minty!
4. Fight lice and nits
Lice and nits hate tea tree oil. Mix with a carrier oil and massage it into the scalp to kill off lice and nits. You can also add a generous amount to an unscented shampoo. Optional: add Eucalyptus essential oil.
5. Treat skin tags and warts
People swear by the nightly routine: tea tree essential oil (mixed with a small amount of carrier oil) directly applied to skin tags. It’s been shown to reduce skin tags and warts if it’s applied often enough. Try a regular routine of 5 drops of tea tree oil mixed into 1/2 teaspoon of carrier oil. Apply to the skin tags with a cotton swab.
6. Freshen a dirty carpet
Before vacuuming, kill off dust mites and germs using tea tree essential oil in our DIY carpet spray:
Combine in a spray bottle:
- 1 tsp white vinegar (optional)
- 15–20 drops tea tree essential oil (add a few drops of peppermint essential oil for a fresh scent!)
- 1/2 cup water
Spray the carpet thoroughly and allow the spray to set for 2–3 minutes. Vacuum the rug as normal, and be thorough! You’ll notice the fresh scent that fills the room while you vacuum, and the rug will be fresh and clean. Avoid scuffing around for 10–15 minutes after vacuuming to let the oils set in.
7. Laundry
Tea tree essential oil is an effective way to deep clean dirty clothes with caked-in stains. Add 5–10 drops to your detergent in a full load of laundry.
If clothes are sitting in the washer too long, mist some tea tree over the clothes before drying them. If they’re super mildew-y, try a mixture in a spray bottle of 15 drops tea tree essential oil and 1/2 cup water. Spray it over the clothes and run a rinse-and-spin.
8. Congestion
Diffuse tea tree essential oil beside, or combine it with a carrier oil and rub it on your chest for congestion relief.
9. Anti-fungal properties
Athletes use tea tree to kill athlete’s foot. It’s potent and fast-acting. Plus, it has a killer fresh scent. It’s recommended that you apply two or three times per day in order to keep the fungus at bay. It is a great alternative to a trip to the pharmacy, and arguably more effective. Don’t believe us? Give it a Google.
10. Circulation
Tea tree essential oil promotes healthy circulation. Mix 5–7 drops with a carrier oil of your choice and massage it into sore joints and tight muscles.
